First year program
Team Thad 17's
has amassed a very solid group of young men and started
the summer circuit season with an impressive Memphis
Classic Tournament championship with solid wins over
Dallas Mustangs and Jackson Tigers. Starting the month
of April the 17's went an 11-3 with good strong overall
play and plenty of room for progress as the season
progresses.
Jonathan Starks @ Brighton
Jonathan Starks
(6'1 - 175 lbs.
Brighton,
rivals #) is definitely the
best overall point guard in the state plus the region
hands down in the Hoopers eyes staff. Add his
athletic ability where he can also play above the rim,
great ball handling skills, outstanding court vision to
deliver pinpoint laser passes all over the court. To go
along with an very
impressive jump shot from the mid range to the long
three pointer. In Dallas on April 20, 2012 at the Next
Level Tournament he averages a double double with 11
assists per contest plus 14pints respectively. This kid
is going to be very special compadres and when his high
school career ends he will be considered one of the top
guards to play in the area accordingly.
Ervin Morris
(6'5 - 195 lbs.
Memphis East,
rivals # Kent Stat via South
Kent Prep)
who has reclassified to class 2013 and is one of those players that can do a little bit of
everything and especially offensively with his long reach and tall frame he
contributes in many ways and you will hear about this
kid all summer circuit season long.
Aston
Morton
(6'3 - 185 lbs.,
rivals #
Desoto Central
) at his height is the best rebounder on this squad with
a toughness that comes from the heart. He possesses a
very nice jump shot from all over the court so he has
different dimensions to his game.
Guard play is very solid with the
addition of
Payton Hulsey
(6'4 - 185 lbs.
Southwind,
rivals #)
who can play the 1 or 2 in strong fashion. Hulsey has the
body to play other teams big guards and has an very
overall aggressive game. Hulsey's passing and court
vision is very solid at the same time.
Demetrius Dyson
(6'6 - 195 lbs.
Melrose,
rivals #)
will contribute all season accordingly with his overall
play. Rhyan Townes
(6'4 - 190 lbs.,
rivals #)
whose left hand moves are very solid with an very
improved outside shot from long range also.
Another teammate is
Tim Sanders
(6'0 - 165 lbs.,
Germantown
rivals #) who will play at
the guard spot and is one of the better outside shooters
in the city.
Sanders
will make some noise as he did early in the summer
circuit season with some very solid shooting against
great competition early on.
Team Thad has a strong schedule this summer
starting with The Memphis Classic April 13-15 whom they
captured the championship with wins over
Dallas Mustangs twice and
Jackson Tigers
impressively. Next on tap is The
Nike Next Level
in Dallas April 20-23
during the first live period for college coaches to
evaluate players extensively and returns after a three
year hiatus. Another marquee tournaments
will be the
Real Deal on the Rock
in Little Rock April 27-29. AAU Sub State and AAU State
will proceed in May with good talent locally and state
wide participating. July is no exception with
major events all the way across the board with The Adidas
Invitational in Indianapolis, Indiana July 11-15 and
with the Kentucky Hoopfest in Louisville, Kentucky July 18-22
and Adidas Super 64 in Las Vegas from July 25-29 to end
an very strong summer schedule.
Conner Anderson
(6'7 - 210 lbs.,
Germantown
rivals #)
and Mike Matlack
(6'5 - 200 lbs.,
Overton
rivals # )
round out an very solid overall ball club that has all
the pieces for winning national tournaments all summer
long. The only thing I see that can give them problems
is they lack big man for inside play against teams with
strong inside play. Teammates will have to step up and
crash the boards with tenacity which will pay off ten
fold. When their big guns can't get it
done and their will be a time when they cross that bridge
everything else has to be in line to compete nationally. Will the supporting cast step up and
play within their parameters and make smart decisions
and limit their mistakes where that will be crucial
department all season long.
