CORDOVA 2015 - 2016
Coach Scales giving orders to his troops
Cordova claims the
Number 2 spot in MemphisHoopers.com Preseason
Top Ten Poll and the highest rankings ever for
the school. The Wolves have had strong finishes
down the stretch in past seasons but will come
out the gate in top form. In his 7th year at the helm -
Coach Scales
is one of the top coaches in the region, "Hands
Down" compadres! He has proved it year in and
year out and always one of the competing ball
clubs from his district to advance far in
postseason play even after many high profile transfers to
leave and play with other schools in the city.
Cordova is a school with an enrollment of over
2,000 kids, you never know what might pop up in
your gym after registration with potential that
has blossomed over the summer. The
Wolves reside in District 14-AAA, and probably the toughest
overall district this year with 2 of the top 5
teams in the poll since 16-AAA is definitely on
a down year from competing teams in district as
years past accordingly. A big boy schedule on
tap from the beginning to end and they will make
serious noise this basketball season with
easy five D.1 players on the roster
respectively with a bench that will be tested
early in the season.
A team with a nice
mixture of youth and veteran play that will make
noise for the next several years and battle
Arlington for district honors as well. The
Wolves have two players that have already
committed and will be signing on National
Signing Day November 12, 2015. Jalen Dupree has
committed to Murray State and Kevion Stewart to
Southern Illinois Edwardsville which both
schools residing
in
the
OVC Conference. Two of
the top sophomores Tyler Harris and Roderick
Brown in the region and state who both had
tremendous showings on the summer circuit making
noise all summer long. Blake Williams Jr. is
another kid you need to keep your eye on with
C.J. Reeder at the same time.
Senior
Jalen Dupree
(6'9 - 215 lbs., espn
- 2016 - #
commit - Murray State)
had an awesome summer circuit season
playing with
Team Penny
who
steadily improved
while playing on the EYBL circuit with coaches
from all over the country inquiring about this
young man.
Dupree
is a very athletic player that has great hands
where he can use either hand on jump hooks with
exact consistency with rebounding and shot
blocking in strong fashion his major attributes.
Kevion Stewart
(6'4 - 175 lbs., espn
- 2016 - #
commit - Southern Illinois-Edwardsville)
also had a very impressive summer circuit season with
T Phab
coached by Arkansas and Fairley High School
legend Derrick Stewart. Coach Scales states,
"most underrated player in the city", who can
shoot the basketball extremely well from all
over the court and is the best overall defender
on the basketball team.
Stewart
scoring will be very instrumental all during the
regular basketball season and well in postseason
action.
Sophomore
Roderick Brown
Junior
Blake Williams (5'10
- 160 lbs.,
espn - 2017 - #)
is a very solid overall crafty point guard with
great court vision all over the court in half
court sets and especially in the open court on
the run. A combo effect of sort in strong
fashion,
Williams
play at the point guard makes everyone better
around him and a very important upside with this
young man is he can score when he has too
in synchronized form. Sophomore
Rodrick Brown (6'6
- 200 lbs.,
espn - 2018 - #)
is not only the most
athletic player on the ball club but one of the
top in the region.
Brown
possesses a man child body who is always in a
high motor mode at all times on both sides of
the ball defensively and offensively. His play
in the paint shows he can battle with the best
in the country with consistent fashion.
Sophomore Tyler Harris
Sophomore
Tyler Harris (5'10
- 150 lbs., future150
- 2018
#)
who comes from a Real Live
Memphis Basketball Family, probably had one of the
biggest summer circuits for guards (Class
2018) in the
nation Bottom Line!!! This young man can really play
coaches/compadres even though he is young he is a proven
leader on the court at the point guard position.
Harris
has very, very high basketball I.Q. and can shoot the
basketball from anywhere on the court at the drop of a
dime in strong consistent fashion with much confidence
at hand. He handles the basketball extremely well in all
different situations presented to him in real game time
scenarios. Senior
C.J. Reeder
Jr.(6'0 - 170
lbs., rivals
2016#)
is another
player with a high basketball I.Q who plays aggressive
at all times while on the court on both sides of the
basketball. He attacks from all sides with a lot of emotion
especially around the rim that turns into all purpose
points that are very valuable in the box score.
Cordova
will participate in two Hall of Fame Games
November 17 vs. Collierville and November 18 vs.
Kirby and both of those games will be at home.
November 24, 2015 game vs. St. Benedict and the
only private school they will have on their
schedule this year and they can literally walk
to that game with the proximity the Eagles it in
their back yard. November 27, 2015 they travel
down south to Corinth, Mississippi and
participate in the Thanksgiving
Light House Classic
against stronghold Jackson Callaway.
The 3rd Annual Renee
Scales Lupus Classic which will be held
this year on December 5, 2015 at Cordova High
School and it's first couple of years has made
some serious noise with level of talent.
December 12, 2015 they will make that trip out
east for for the Memphis
- Atlanta Classic. One of the top
regional holiday tournaments in the region, The
Poplar Bluff Shootout in Poplar Bluff, Arkansas
that runs December 28-30, 2015 will be a big boy
event. They finish their
out of district schedule with a game in
The
Penny Hardaway Classic
January 10, 2016
and will be pitted against Chicago powerhouse
Simeon Academy.
Senior
O'Bryan Owens (6'2
- 175 lbs., future150
#)
and
junior
Randy Jones jr. (6'5
- 185 lbs., future150
#)
will receive valuable
minutes off the bench and will be instrumental
in games throughout the high school basketball
season.
