ARLINGTON 2013-2014

The second largest enrollment high school in the state of Tennessee with the football program making serious noise the last couple of years. The high school basketball program reached a milestone last year putting it's first ever in Arlington school history to receive a Division 1 scholarship player in Ryan Townes (TSU). Another great player at Arlington, Anthony Cole who is displayed in picture below with MemphisHoopers.com travel team (No.23) in 2012 and walked on at University of Memphis as a roster player. Congrats Anthony Cole!!! Coach Don Deaton in his fourth year at the school  stated, "this team has the potential to be one of his best teams". Deaton has coached some goods teams especially while at Bartlett High School. This the first Arlington High School that has been added to MemphisHoopers.com preseason or poll activity at all. With the return of C.J. Anderson from Whitehaven was the biggest transfer in offseason and propels one group of  Tigers and totally changes the mechanics of the other group of Tigers on the opposite side of Shelby County.

Senior C.J. Anderson (6'5 - 180 lbs., espn  # - UMASS commit) had a good summer circuit season playing for Team Thad 17's. Anderson long build with extraordinary ball handling skills, great court vision, and the ability to nail down shots from anywhere on the court is rock solid. While at Whitehaven his versatility transformed them into a contender. His first two years at Arlington he was a vital piece especially when they beat heavy talent laden Bartlett in the 2010 district tournament at Bartlett as  freshmen with Chiozza on that squad.

Another very solid senior K.J. Bates (6'1 - 180 lbs., espn - #) also had an extremely great summer circuit season with Team Thad 16's. Bates who plays wide receiver on the high school football team and is very gifted in that position which he has translated into great basketball skills set at work, especially that solid foot work. Bates does a little bit of everything on both sides of the ball while making very smart court decisions and shot selection as one of the best MemphisHoopers.com staff has seen. Senior Cody Hailstock (6'0 - 200 lbs., rivals #) strong athletic build with a slick quickness on offense with his guard play is going to be very important in rotation. Hailstock defense on other teams number 1 guards will be an upmost for the Tigers.

Junior Adarius Avery (6'4 - 195 lbs., rivals #) summer circuit season was very productive for Team Thad 16's with play around the rim in athletic form at all times to attract Division 1 coaches accordingly. Avery's midrange game has favored tremendously as his shot continues to be more consistent in game time situations.  Another senior is Dejuan Canaday (6'4 - 210 lbs., rivals #) who will see valuable minutes in the rotation all season long with his time increasing with his aggressive inside post presence and play.

Sophomore Nathan Hoover (6'3 - 175 lbs., rivals #) has a great shot compadres and will have mucho opportunities to claim that shooters touch on the Division 1 high school level all season long.

Arlington will not participate in any Hall of Fame games or high profile tournaments respectively but bolster a very strong out right schedule. It starts with Division AA Bolivar Central who boasts multiple state champions to visit Arlington November 26, 2013. Two weeks later they host old conference rival Craigmont in an out of schedule game since the Chiefs are no longer Division AAA but Division AA and will make noise on that level. Next day on December 7, 2013 they participate in Battle of Borders against Little Rock Parkview.  Future postseason opponent in White Station  travels to Arlington December 10, 2013. Christmas time they stay at home and play in Harding Academy Christmas Tournament December 19, 20, 21.

The Tigers finish out their travel schedule the latter part of the season with games slated against Brentwood Academy December 13, 2013, Wilson Central December 145, 201, & Germantown December 16, 2103. January 4, 2104 they play against an out of town TBA.

Sophomore Aaron Anderson (6'6 - 205 lbs., rivals #) is going to get chances at helping in the middle all season long. Jonathan Boylan (6'5 - 200 lbs., rivals #) is a very good shooter, fundamentally sound and plays around the rim respectively.

College Coaches:> Diamond in the Rough Team with legitimate off the radar prospects, (college coaches click here).

Recap 8-25-2005

BY : ANDRE WHITEHEAD OF TENNESSEE PREP HOOPS

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. I think there is a book that starts off that way, but I digress.

The anticipation of the upcoming AAU or summer campaign was alive and kicking all over the country in May of 2005, especially in Memphis.

The expectations seemed enormous, having finished second in the 17 and under nationals last season as 16's the Memphis YOMCA seemed primed for the ultimate run.

Something happened on the way to the gym.

It was apparent the Bluff City faithful were not the only parties interested in getting a piece of the star studded squad.

Adidas wanted to get a foothold in the ever burgeoning Memphis hoop scene and this seemed to be the initial move to start this particular ball
rolling.

So the YOMCA was no longer in the loop and the Memphis Pump-N-Run were officially born.

TTaking a peek at the roster one could not blame Adidas for their bold move. Thaddeus Young, Willie Kemp, Wayne Chism, Pierre Niles and Brandon Powell made up a nucleus that would surely lead Team Memphis to the promised land.

The summer campaign started with a most interesting scenario as the "PNR" lost a game to the Mid-State Ballerz, who ironically had Willie Kemp running the show. This was an illusion that would soon change, as Kemp
shortly thereafter joined the PNR.

With all their ducks in a row, the PNR set out to establish themselves and put a benchmark on the national attention that would follow.

The Real Deal on the Hill, the first major tournament of the summer that coaches could attend. The pundits pined for the impending matchup between Team Memphis and the defending mythical goliath The Indy Spiece Heat. The Heat were led by the consensus top player in the class Greg Oden and numerous other high level prospects who could actually match the
PNR with name recognition.br>
The reputation was established and the aura of the PNR was created as the boys from Memphis soundly defeated the Heat and made a huge cry across the land as the best summer squad in existence.

Another funny thing happened on the way to their future endeavors, nothing.

For some inexplicable reason the PNR did not suit up for any of the Memorial Day festivities and was sparsely seen until the Adidas Super 64 in Atlanta, following the shoe camps.

The aforementioned players participated in various high level exposure camps and the three major shoe camps and kept their names on the tongues of coaches nationwide.

After achieving individual success at these various camps, the boys got back together with the purpose of putting the finishing touches on a grand and final run through the top programs the country had to offer. They added Ridgeway jumping jack Ernest Fields and ECS powerhouse Tim Johnson to the fold and things looked bright.

Once again a funny thing happened on the way to the gym.

The time off and the lack of continuity played havoc on the chemistry of the PNR and they bowed out early in Atlanta.

Heading to Las Vegas for the final big time event of the summer, the PNR seemed poised and ready to achieve. After dominating pool play the lack of chemistry once again reared it's ugly head and some resentment among the players seemed to end this summer campaign on a sour note.

This team had the potential to be one of the best of all time. It is truly unclear what precipitated these events that grounded this team for much of the latter portion of May and June, but it truly had it's effect on their success.

None the less these kids are part of the best class of seniors to dot the Tennessee landscape in many years.

The decision to completely disassociate themselves with the
organization that they grew up playing for in retrospect now seems like a mistake. The YOMCA will continue on with quality younger teams and what to make of the Adidas affiliation with the Bluff City at this juncture is
unclear.
