The
Championship game between the Select and Hoopers was a
test for two upcoming ball clubs in the Memphis area.
Both clubs have some of the best guards in the ninth and
tenth grade classes in
Tevin Cox
(Hoopers), Cedric McAfee
(Select), Myron Johnson
(Select). The Select jumped out with a early lead on
some good outside shooting from McAfee hitting his first
three 3 point attempts.
The Hoopers
Tevin Cox countered
with 8 straight points off impressive slashes to
the goal.
Jarvis
Sullivan
(Hoopers) also contributed in the run with some nice mid
range jumpers. The Select went into the break up 47-39
respectively.
The difference maker in the game was the youngest player
on the court in
Myron
Johnson
(Select) of
Corry Middle. His basketball IQ is high to be an
incoming freshmen. He uses his left hand better then
anyone at that age I have ever seen. Needs to shoot the
jumper more, but why on this day, his drives were near
perfection breaking down the Hoopers defense over and
over.
Tyler
Tashi
(Hoopers) contributed with 4 assists in the run that got
the Hoopers within 5 points after cutting a 23 point
deficit.
Key Points of The Game:
The Select stringent
defense that made the Hoopers turn the ball over 24
times. Selfish ball handling on the Hoopers part led to
the collapse accordingly.
